Search Party Status
To date, The Haggled Housewife sales have reached 103 books (although in fairness, 11 of the books were purchased by my mom and then given away as gifts to actual potential buyers and readers helping to boost the local word of mouth potential). Currently, promotion has only been in and around my local town and community. I put up signs, fliers and posters for advertisement. Homemade yard signs were a very big form of advertising. I distributed eighteen throughout my local town, as well as a few surrounding towns in Bergen County, NJ. I have a static web page as well as this blog page. I am trying to branch out to my surrounding county and state for support and have made a media pitch to local New Jersey magazines and news stations in hopes of enticing local media coverage. (A recent article was written about me in the local community paper.)
I am now progressing to national media coverage. The biggest media promotion I dream about is my OPRAH-HOPE-RAH campaign, which consists of being on the OPRAH show. Throughout my book, I use unknown quotes and proverbs to illustrate my story reflections. The quote I have coined for myself is “I AM NOT GOING TO STOP TILL I HAGGLE MY WAY TO THE TOP!” Written into the book is the plea of sharing the book via word of mouth and that every reader become part of the Oprah Hope Rah team! Promotion is ongoing and ever changing and challenging for a self published author like myself, who has no agents, editors, publishers and book sellers as confidants or advisers. My idea is to reach out to ordinary everyday people to build a search party, to share with women what I am doing during the Recession to promote my book.
